How to land an interview
Of course, the idea of getting a new job is exciting but the application processโฆ not so exciting. Here are our top 5 tips for you on how to help you land that first interview!
1. Update your profile
It may seem obvious but is your profile and resume up to date? This is your first impression so all the little details matter. Add in any new experiences, accomplishments or metrics.

2. Research the hiring company
Find out if this is a company that you really want to work at. Mindfully check reviews from past employees on sites like Glassdoor and see what their values are.

3. Tailor your resume
For every position you apply for, you should update your resume and add in relevant skills. Recruiters can tell when you mass send our applications.
How can you do this? Gala Jackson shares how you can brainstorm:
โFor every job you apply for, print out the job description. Then mark up the page, highlighting the experience and qualifications that you definitely have, halfway have, and don't yet have. Brainstorm how you can directly tie the different tasks to your personal narrative. All this information can help you write a cover letter, if it's required in your application, and answer tough interview questions.โ

4. Learn how to tell your story

5. Network, network, network
Building your network is so critical to your career. There is a variety of people that you should have around you that will help you with your job search, here are a few examples:
- Supporters: past employers or co-workers who support you as you grow in your career journey and can give you a positive reference upon request.
- Cheerleaders: friends or family, connections in the same or a different industry.
- Referrers: people who have a connection to a company or role that you would like to have - this is a way to fast-track your application.
- Mentors: guide you in your career, help you overcome issues and answer questions about certain subjects.
Always keep in mind that these relationships should never just be transactional.
